Muthoni Mahinda
Born in Kenya Muthoni is now married and based in Zimbabwe. Muthoni is a third generation in a long line of family jewellers. Below is what she had to say about herself and her movement
“I am part of an afro fusion community that has the intention of connecting to the power within. We began in the hearts of the people involved to create a supportive presence for one another .We are African families from different cultures by integrating our creative ideas and talents like Jewellery making, music, leatherwork and musical instruments making we are reawakening the pro cultural activities of our ancestry
We have come together with an indivisible sense of unity, trust and openness. We intend to create an indigenous industry that destroys individualism and incorporates cooperation.
In the Jewellery section part of the movement, we focus on beads and pieces from all over Africa .Occasionally we blend these with beads and piece from other parts of the world especially those from remote areas.
I come from a family of jewellers and have had the support and training from my elders from a very young age. I also have immense assistance from my sisters Aliki and Wangia based in Kenya and a close friend and partner Mylers jnr
We have experimented with a lot of pieces and have put in a lot of work and love into the pieces in our catalogue .we hope all those that wear our pieces will feel the love ,trust and peace we stand for.
