There are few bands in South Africa, indeed the world that do the Big Band sound more infectiously, with more accomplishment and just plain love for the genre, than the African Jazz Pioneers. The AJP formed in 1982 and in spite a change of line-up, this third generation membership (the same ensemble who recorded AJP's last album, 'Shuffling Joe', released in 1995) is bearing the band's flag with fervor. The African Jazz Pioneers are :Bra Ntemi Piliso (Alto Sax and Bandleader), Mpho Sithole (Alto Sax), Brahms Hlabatau (Tenor Sax), Levy Kgasi (Trumpet), Joe Kgasi (Trumpet), Albert Nkaka Khumalo (Guitar), Phillip Tau (Bass), Madoda Gxabeka (Drums), Xolani Maseti (Keyboards), Giant Molokomme (Vocals). |
